My Heart Belongs To Vintage
I love vintage things. Antique too. Sometimes I am able to buy something old instead of something new and it makes me feel happy. *glasses frames. I have worn glasses since the 4th grade. In my head, I always new what i wanted. I picture a 1950's year book, a girl with a flip in her hair and crazy cool cat eye glasses. I never found them in any store. It was not until last year when I was able to find my dream pair. I saw them online and had to get them. Vintage frames, black, cat eyes shape with little silver accents. *swoon* *Photographs. I LOVE buying old photos of people whose lives I know nothing about. The older, the better. There they stand frozen in time. Sometimes I am lucky and i aquire several images of one person or one family from different moments in time. It is a special thing. I make up all kinds of stories about the people. *Clothes. I could go on and one about this. Ever since I was a child, I have been in love with vintage clothes. My aunt used to take us to thrift stores when I was little to get us dress up clothes. My faveorite was a Gunne Sax prarie dress from the 70's. I am a plus sized girl now so sometimes it is hard to indulge my love of vintage clothes but when I find something that fits, I pounce on it. *Jewlery. I love black necklaces. Some of my faveorite pieces are secondhand finds. the beads are so solid and the necklaces are so well made. *Slips. Some of my most prized slips have been vintage ones. I had a dark blue Van Raalte slip that I wore until it was almost nothing. it fit like a dream and was so heavy and thick. I am on the hunt always for something like the one I was owned. modern slips are so flimsy and generic looking. Vintage slips have something sexy about them, all the lace and detail make them special. *Magazines. I love the old ads for soda and make-up and products and food. The ones with ladies being perfect. Amazing stuff. I can spend hours indulging in ever inch of a vintage magazine. I spent minutes looking and reading each page. I remember reading an article about hair-do's for proms from the 60's. It has stood out in my mind for years. All the work these teenage girls went through is something modern girls would never do. We are to fast as a society nowdays. We want everything NOW. *Jackets. Each modern coat or jacket I have bought has not lasted long. All of my vintage ones last forever. So well made. They fit great, keep me warm and in most cases, They cost way, way less than modern stuff. My current faveorite was just $25 and i have worn it for 2 years now and it can go for many more. Its the best! thrift stores are your friend and so are swap meets and yard sales. I choose vintage every chance i can. |
