A Trick To Get A Toddler off The Bottle
My 2 year old is very stubborn and when it came to her bottle, she just would not give it up. She did not use it ALL THE TIME. She prefers milk in a bottle and uses one at night with water. She will use straws in resturaunts and drink from sippy cups if we give her one at home. But she refused to just let go. Over the weekend i found a book at Traget in the dollar bin all about saying good- bye to the bottle. She is really into books these days so I thought that if the kid in the book could give up his bottle, maybe she would follow. No luck. Then today happened. She is very sick with a cold and I felt like I needed to get her looked at. She went to a pediatrician we have not met before. He asked all the usual questions about her and her health and habits. Typical 2 year old stuff I tell him. Then he asks about the bottle and I grumble "Yes." Then it dawns on me that today is the day of NO MORE BOTTLES! I quietly whisper to him to tell her "NO MORE BOTTLES" and he does. It worked with no more milk at night when the dentist told her so I figured the Doctor might have some influence on her too since she sees Mom and Dad as pushovers. He told her to put all of the bottles in a box and we could donate them to a new baby . We should even get wrapping paper and make them look like a pretty present. Well, my daughter just LOVED this idea and the whole day she talked about it! While running errands, we stopped by the dollar store and picked out a gift bag. She kept saying she wanted to give the new baby a bag with bunnies and we were in luck! All of the Easter bags were out and she picked out the best bag of the bunch. When her Dad came home we had a family get together in the kitchen. We tossed ALL of the bottles into the bag and said "Good-bye" to the bottle. I think all of us feel a bit free, especially my little girl. She knows she is a big girl :) |
